What you get with this test

What’s measured?

This test measures your IgG antibody reactivity to 108 foods

Your immune system creates IgG antibodies in response to the foods you eat, but certain foods may trigger your body to produce more IgG antibodies than others.

This test classifies your IgG reactivity levels for each food as low, moderate, or high reactivity. High reactivity foods may contribute to the symptoms associated with food sensitivity, and are great candidates for further exploration in an elimination diet.

Symptoms

Experiencing  bloating, nausea, or other symptoms that may be related to food?

Food sensitivity symptoms may take hours or days to appear after consuming an offending food. Your immune system’s IgG antibody response to foods can be paired with an elimination diet to help you pinpoint the specific foods causing symptoms.

  • Bloating
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Nausea
  • Headaches

Understand the differences between food sensitivity, food allergy, and celiac disease testing

genofit-food-sensitivity-t Food Sensitivity Test genofit-food-sensitivity-t Food Sensitivity Comprehensive Test
Measures Current levels of IgG antibodies for a variety of foods Presence or absence of antibodies that can indicate celiac disease
Intended use To identify foods in your current diet that might be connected to food sensitivity symptoms To identify if you have an immune response to gluten, that might be connected to celiac disease
Potential symptoms Food sensitivities are a non-life-threatening condition with delayed symptoms such as:
• Abdominal pain
• Bloating
• Headache
• Indigestion
Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition with chronic symptoms such as:
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation
• Bloating
• Unexpected weight loss

FAQ's

Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about this test.

Food sensitivity refers to an often-delayed response to specific foods, where symptoms may not appear for several hours or even days after consuming the food. Food sensitivities can cause a lot of discomfort and they may contribute to other health complications. But unlike food allergies, food sensitivities are likely not life-threatening.

Delayed on-set of symptoms makes it difficult to identify the food components that may be behind the food sensitivity. Therefore, a food sensitivity test that measures the level of IgG antibodies may be a useful tool for identifying potentially problematic food. The definition of food sensitivity can also include food intolerances – when the body cannot properly digest a particular food (or part of a food). Lactose intolerance is the most common example of a food intolerance. This test does not detect food intolerances, such as lactose intolerance.

The results from this food sensitivity test alone cannot diagnose a food sensitivity. However, it provides a great starting point for further investigations as it will help you narrow down the food groups that may be contributing to your symptoms associated with food sensitivity. Your results also provide a base for designing an elimination diet with the exclusion of foods associated with elevated IgG levels.

Elimination diets have two phases – the elimination phase and the reintroduction phase:

In the elimination phase, the suspect food or foods are excluded from the diet for a short period (typically 2–3 weeks). If symptoms improve during this phase, it may indicate that one or more of the excluded foods is contributing to the symptoms. If symptoms do not improve, it is important to consult a health professional as other factors could be the cause of your symptoms (Raman, 2017).

In the reintroduction phase, the eliminated foods are slowly brought back into the diet. This is done individually for each food (or food group) over 2–3 days to see if any symptoms reoccur. If no symptoms occur, you can then move onto adding back the next excluded food (or food group). If symptoms do occur, it indicates that the reintroduced food is contributing to your symptoms of food intolerance (Raman, 2017).
